2017-18 has been another busy year for Syston Scout group from Camps, Shows, Walks, Dinners and Fun had by all! 

Syston Scout group runs a range of section which cater from ages 6-8 years (Beavers), 8-10 Years (Cubs) 10-14 Years (Scouts) and a Scout and Guide Band from 8-25+ Years. In these sections, they have been doing activities in and out of the hall from fun days celebrating St George’s Day, meeting the Mayor and finding out all about the Police and guide dogs to name a few. Each section also enjoyed a few nights away from a Pirate themed Beaver sleepover at Johns Lee Wood, a big top circus camp for Cubs and Scouts, to a skills camp for the Band. 

 

The group have also been raising funds in a variety of ways this year from a 20-mile Sponsored Hike, BBQ and tea room at Syston Carnival, a speedy afternoon with a hall full of Scalextric Track, a dramatic evening with a Christmas themed Murder Mystery Dinner and a toe tapping Pop Quiz!

All the money raised this year and over the past 2 years have been to improve our building which will give our young people more opportunity to enjoy fun and adventure while developing the skills they need to succeed. We are looking to start building work on our new storage extension for new equipment. In the next year, we plan to improve access including an access ramp to the rear, new toilets with easy disabled access, new front gate for a more secure but friendly new look. We are also looking at improving and upgrading items in and out of the hall, such as re-paint Painting the hall, improving the lighting, paving and gardening the rear grass area to name a few. 

 

We are already planning and organising for the next academic year in the Group. With this is mind and our ever-growing Group we are looking for people to help us in any way from cooking Burgers at a BBQ to helping plan our next big adventure. We are looking for people to join our Exec Team or Programme teams in anyway or time you may have.
