As it was mentioned in last months STN, Syston Scout Group is 110 years old this year. I have been involved with this group since I joined the Beavers a long time ago and I am now the Scout Troop leader that meets on Tuesday Evenings between 7-9pm.
Over the past year numbers in the troop have fluctuated between 14 and 20 members. We’ve had a number of younger members join us from the Cub section this year and we now have a relatively young troop of extremely keen young people.
As ever we’ve been out and about taking part in a wide range of sporting, scouting and challenging activities, trying to keep the programme fresh and as interesting for the young people. In addition to all the traditional Scouting activities such as Knotting, Pioneering, Backwards Cooking, Hiking etc…. we’ve also had the opportunity to try some new things such as Archery & Air Rifle shooting which proved to be popular with some very impressive Archers in our midst.
We’ve also added even more activities to our programme such as Laser Force, Swimming, Cycling, Chariot Racing, Jump Giants, Photo / Trail Evening, Scalextric Evening, Loughborough Museum and next week we have got the Local Police coming down to give us a talk and bring one of the riot vans for the troops to look around. “Hopefully they will not get locked in!!”
What we intend to see in the months ahead is the Troop out and about in strength enjoying what Scouting has to offer promoting ourselves a little more, but to do this we need everyone’s support. We will be dusting off the tents and getting a few nights away under canvas, as we will be attending a District Camp in May called “Cirque Du Charnwood”.
If your son or daughter would like to join the section, please feel free to contact myself and also If anyone has any “spare time” to help out whether it is just occasionally, the help would certainly be appreciated.
Thanks,
Kevin Beeton / Scout Leader.
