December was a short month for Syston Beavers Colony this
year as we moved towards the Christmas and New Year
holidays. On the 4th December, They visited the residents of
Syston Lodge Care Home to sing carols and to share some
Christmas spirit with the residents and staff at the home.
It was a lovely evening with renditions of ‘Rudolf The Red Nose
Reindeer’, ‘When Santa Got Stuck Up The Chimney’, ‘We Wish
You A Merry Christmas’ and even had 2 of the beavers play
their instruments, going down very well with everyone that was there.
On the 11th December, we had a Christmas themed evening, making Snowmen biscuits, playing party games and with all of the Beavers wearing Christmas jumpers. We also had a visit from the Assistant District Commissioner for Beavers, Sandy Taylor, that evening as he was presenting bronze level Chief Scout Awards to Ben and Teddy. This is the highest award achievable for Beavers before they move up to Cubs.
To finish the year, we all went to the bowling alley at the Meridian Leisure Park on the 17th December for a morning of ten-pin bowling, which was a huge success and enjoyed by all of the Beavers and leaders alike. Some of the Beavers were trying ten-pin bowling for the first time, but got the hang of it very quickly, with some of them coming close to beating the leaders’ final scores.
